I read in a Costco magazine a while ago that "...even notorious plant killers cannot kill jade plant." And guess what!!! I killed jade more than 12 yrs ago. I used to say I had the blackest thumb. Did not know that jade is a succulent and it does not need water everyday? All I knew was plants need water everyday. That was my knowledge of taking care of the plants at that time. A while later, at work place we were asked to participate in making your plant/pot and we were provided some succulents, pots to color, moss and soil. I was told to keep it on window sill and water only after a week. Followed the exact instructions, and the plants survived. One of them was jelly bean succulent. Currently I have lot more succulent varieties, flowers, shrubs, fruit trees. I started gardening with no expectations but curiosity. Excitement when a new leaf is uncurled; a new bud starting and when they bloom. It was possible because I was deeply caring for them with the intention of caring and also being in the moment. I saw a different version of me which I never knew. Growing plants taught me acceptance, patience and showing tenderness. These qualities helped me to be a better parent and a lifecoach. I would recommend people to grow and take care of at least one plant to learn something new about themselves. Its a rewarding experience to make a plant thrive against all odds.
(Pic is Epyphyllum. Got the cutting from the same person who gave me the jade cutting 12 yrs ago)
